History
UKD Productions was set up by Dominic Brendell, whose strong musical background began when he was a small child. Both parents were heavily involved in the music industry from the early 60’s to the mid 80’s so Dominic grew up with a wealth of knowledge and creativity around him. Dominic's father Steve has worked at NEMS with Brian Epstein and The Beatles, working on such projects as the hugely successful album 'Abbey Road'. Steve then went on to work for Apple Corps, Apple Films and participated in the abortive 'Long and Winding Road' film project, which would eventually re-emerge over 25 years later as The Beatles Anthology series. During his time at Apple he worked for John and Yoko's film company, Joko films (based at their home, Tittenhurst Park) and played on John Lennon's 'Imagine' album. He also joined John in his home studio to play conga drums on what is now a very rare acetate 'God Save Oz', a song written by John for the three members of Oz magazine put on trial.
After leaving school Dominic developed his musical interests by working within the live music sector of promoting local music across his home town of Hereford under the name of RAF Promotions with the notorious Dr B. These promotions really increased Dominic’s passion for combining music with business. This then led him to explore and later complete a Diploma in Music Industry Management & Marketing at the Buckinghamshire Chilterns University. The course gave Dominic a broad overview of how the whole music industry works and the dramatic changes that were occurring within the industry as we entered into the new millennium. By now understanding the theory of the business it was essential to gain the more important practical experience.
During the course Dominic received two offers of work experience, one from ‘Cooking Vinyl Records’, the other from the newly formed ‘Futureproof Records’. The one he chose to get involved with was Futureproof Records.
The role at Futureproof was a varied one, which later led into a full time position within the organization handling marketing and sales, with Phil Legg (Futureproof MD) as mentor.
Phil came from a varied background, having started of his musical life playing guitar, he toured Europe supporting acts like Iggy Pop, The Human League, Scritti Politti & Joy Division, before having immense success as an engineer working alongside Sade, Boy George, The Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode and Erasure. He then produced Desree, The Pasadenas & Martyn Ware of Heaven 17 the critically acclaimed Terence Trent D'Arby album "The Hard Line According To..." firmly establishing Phil's position in the British music industry. More recently Phil moved into writing and producing and has had massive success with writing a track on the best selling Playstation game in America "Gran Turismo". He has since gone on to write with Beverly Knight, Keith Lowndes (ABC) and Neneh Cherry.
The learning curve was very steep as both Phil and Dominic worked closely together on all areas of launching a new label/brand with acts into the UK industry. It was after this amazing adventure that Dominic had the opportunity to launch his own company and UKD Productions was born in 2006.
